For outstanding service to journalism in Tennessee, VALERIE CALHOUN is inducted into the 2019 class of the Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame.
Valerie is the Co-host of "Good Morning Memphis," an Emmy Award-winning news program on channel 13, WHBQ-TV. She has earned five Emmy Awards for her work including two for stories reported under the Bargain Thursday banner.
A native of East Tennessee, Valerie is a University of Tennessee graduate. Her first job was in the Myrtle Beach bureau of a Florence, South Carolina, TV station. From there, she jumped from the Carolinas to Alabama and back to East Tennessee before moving to Memphis.
She joined WHBQ when Fox bought the station and added morning news in the late 1990's. Since then, she has become an integral part of the community hosting events and volunteering for groups and agencies throughout the Mid-South.
In addition to anchoring the morning show, Valerie has reported on events ranging from the Northwest Pilot's Strike in 1998 to the Tiger Basketball team's Final Four appearances to the sordid goings on at some Mid-South video stores. These days she focuses on special reports, and the extremely popular Bargain series.
Throughout her long and distinguished career, Valerie Calhoun has brought great credit to herself, the field of journalism, her community, and the state of Tennessee.
